Hold up our Hands God has placed the stories in the Bible to teach us spiritual lessons. Some can help us avoid spiritual pitfalls and achieve spiritual victories. Here is one of those stories. Exodus 17 (NIV): 8The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." 10So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. Clearly the battle that the Jewish people faced that day was spiritual. Furthermore, it was God’s will that Joshua win. However, the victory did not reside only with God, there was a human side to it as well. If others had not stepped in and helped Moses, many people would have lost their lives. Consider the spiritual principles: There are those that God has called to work for him. When these tire, others can come in and encourage them in the battle. Those who encourage share in the celebration of victory. Can we apply this to our situation? We have been called to “go into battle” for the Kingdom of God . We have already accomplished some pretty amazing things. But there are times we tire. We run out of personal resources. That’s when we need people like you to “hold up our hands”. How can you do this? By praying, giving, sending us encouraging emails, or coming to help. When you get involved, you share the victory with us. |
