Join Us God has a purpose and a plan for each of our lives. Our task is to discover that purpose. Maybe your purpose involves coming to Vancouver and becoming part of our ministry team. Jesus commanded us to reach the entire world with the Gospel. Then he sent the Holy Spirit to give us power to accomplish the task. At The Connection we have a grand vision and a strategic plan for accomplishing this work. We also have a reputation for doing some extraordinary things. But we know that in order to do what we’ve been called to do we’ll need many great team members. Interested? Do you have what it takes to be a team member? Are you a hard worker? While still doing research for his Ph.D. in physics, John was describing how many different things he had done to get this result. One of the scientists on John’s team told him, “No one wants to hear how hard it was, they only want to see the baby.” Like science research, working at The Connection is hard work. It is. And it is the kind of work that people often won’t recognize or give you honor for. It is “sitting down till you are numb” or “walking till your feet hurt” kind of work. You need to be okay with that. Are you a self starter? There are days when we work for weeks on projects that no one understands. We have to get up in the morning and be willing to stick with it until it is done. We need people who are willing to start AND finish projects without being pushed. Are you easy to get along with? This is very important. We don’t have time or energy to deal with endless conflict. Drama is for grade 7 not for our team. If you make a big deal out of every little hurt then you won’t be a big help to us. Go into acting. Are you a team player? There is a saying, “There is no limit to what God can do through us if we don’t care who gets the credit.” Are you okay with that? Are you willing to share the honor? This is important. Another part of being a team player is being willing to give and take ideas? Can you share a great idea and then put it on hold or do you need everyone to see it your way right away? Are you humble? Most people want to be boss. It’s human nature. Look at any two year old!! But as Christians we must take on the attitude of Christ who made himself nothing and took on the form of a servant. At TC we try to go beyond personal honor. We are in this to achieve a grand vision. If we get recognized, great! But if we don’t’ – and we become “last” by serving others –God can honor us in his own time. If you are bossy, demanding, or hungry for power, this is not the place for you. You won’t achieve what you’re looking for and you’ll cause us trouble. Try politics. Do you value unity more than your own opinion? We repeat this one because is it so important. At The Connection we believe that many things that we hold dear as convictions or opinions are not essential. Unity is more important than having things done our way. Sometimes unity is even more important than doing things the “right” way. Are you able to support yourself? Why is this important? First of all, we don’t have enough money to pay all the salaries of potential workers. Some people who come to work here will be able to get some support from various other areas. Some might be retired; some can work at jobs like nursing; others can raise support from family, friends and churches. This is a second reason why this is important. If you have worked hard in your home church and have a reputation as a servant, there are many who will be willing to support you in some way. This is a big plus! Are you talented? Notice we put this last. Does that mean we don’t value talent? Sure we do. If we are going to change a city and touch the world we’re going to need the best children’s worker, youth workers, writers, producers, that we can get. We’re going to need teams of powerful prayer warriors, awe inspiriting teachers, creative artists and musicians. But you don’t need to have a special talent to be part of our team. We can use seniors who can cook for groups, people who love answering the phone or some who just enjoy hanging around people. Everyone has some gift or talent that we can use. Age, education, gender, race: these things matter much less than your heart and character. Still interested? Here are a few ways you can taste the water before diving in. Come on a short term mission trip Maybe you are the catalyst that your church needs to get going. Take a leadership role in bringing your family, group or church to Vancouver . To learn more about mission trips click here … Become an intern We could use interns for the summer or a semester. If you attend a Southern Baptist Church you might want to check for a scholarship. Contact your local associational or state office. But if you don’t attend an SBC church, you are still most welcome here. An intern will need to provide his or her own transportation to and from Vancouver and be able to provide at least $100/week in support so he or she can be housed with a family. You will also need to buy health insurance for the time you are here. You will probably walk when you are here unless you can bring your vehicle. You’ll do a variety of servant work – from office work to youth ministry. Be prepared to work outside of your comfort zone. E-mail us if you have interest. Commit for one or two years This is similar to an internship but for this program we ask for a time commitment. We want to give you responsibilities that will take time to develop.
