Frequently Asked Questions about The Connection

Why did you make a movie? Is that not a great risk?
Has anything great ever been accomplished without risk? Jesus said that those who hold on to their lives will lose it. But those who lose it for the gospel will find it. We want to answer Jesus’ call and not let him down.

Some day we'll look back on our life and try to evaluate what we have done. Someday our descendents will view our lives with mature eyes. If we succeed in making a movie that impacts lives we’ll have a chance to make another one. At least we’ll have a chance to change the world. If we tried to change the world by making a movie, but failed, then at least we tried. At least we gave it our all.

Should you not get a church established and large?
That would be ideal. But we just don’t have the luxury of waiting for the ideal time to make our first movie. If we waited until our church had 300 people we would probably be so wrapped up in our “success” of planning such a great church that we would not want to take the time or risk that making a movie would involve. We had to do this now so it became part of our DNA.

Do you have any advice for church planters or pastors of small churches?
Advice is so easy to give. One of my first bits of advice is don’t listen to everyone’s advice. A big struggle that church planters face is discouragement and lack of focus. If you listen to everyone’s advice you will often feel more confused and discouraged.

This is why it is so important to have a coach. I guess that would be our first bit of advice. Whether you are a pastor of a small church or if you are starting a new church, having a coach who can commit at least 2 hours a week to you is crucial to your success. However, you mucst choose a coach wisely. Make sure that the coach you pick has actually DONE what you want to do and did it well. If you want to grow a church to 200, make sure your coach has done that.

There are a lot of people who call themselves experts but they have never done it. This is equally true of denominational leaders. They may have a fancy title, but if they have not done it, don’t let them give you advice. It may be free, but it won't be worth what it costs you.

With all that said: we’re going to use this web site to give you free advice. But remember, we’re in this battle like you are and learning as we go. Take what we say with a grain of salt.

Our tips and advice for church planters will grow over time.

Do you have any advice for Christians who want to get into the movie business?
Absolutely. We want to help you. In the future we even want to have an organization in place that will help filmmakers (and artists) fine tune their craft and get their project made and distributed. But first we must get some successes under our belt. First we must have the financial resources to help. Give us some time to get a system in place.

Until then, we will frequently update our web site with additional resources and tips for Christians who want to get into the film business.
