Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

The Connetion is the first to ever offer teen students at a week-long media camp the opportunity to use a Red One camera. (Summer 2009)

The Connection's Summer Film and Media Camps

Ages 11 to 14: July 26, 2010 through July 30, 2010
Ages 14 to 17: August 2, 2010 through August 6, 2010

The Connection's 11th and 12th film and media camps will be held Summer of 2010 and will be split into two different age groups. Both camps are held in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Students will learn what it takes to write and produce anything from a 30 second commercial to a short film while gaining hands-on experience in workshops for acting, working behind the scenes, writing, and producing. During the week, students will have the opportunity to produce their own short film.

Whether you're interested in a career in the movie or television industry, hope to some day work as a content producer, or simply enjoy making short videos, just for fun...you'll learn how to professionally create high quality content which can be enjoyed by many.

Location:
Camp will be held at The Connection, located at 22722 Dewdney Trunk Road (between 227th and 228th, same building as Speedy Auto Glass).

Who's Welcome?
Anyone who has an interest in film and video production and seeks to increase their skills, strengthen their talents, gain hands-on experience using professional video production equipment, and have fun, all at the same time.

Whether you've been involved in a media camp by The Connection before or this whole media thing is new to you, you're encouarged and welcome to attend.

What the students will learn:

- Basics of Acting
- Basics of Directing
- Stage Acting vs. Film Acting
- Story Development
- Content Writing
- Character Development
- Camera Composition / Cinematography
- Lighting for Video
- Producer Basics

Students will produce their own short film during this camp and will experience what a professional production is like, working with professional high definition equipment, not consumer quality cameras which most media and film camps use.

Camp Instructors:

The Connection Summer Film and Media Camps are instructed by Kyle Lawrence, The Connection's youth minister and an established entertainment industry professional.

Over the past six years, Kyle has produced two seasons of an internationally broadcast television series called Completing Kaden, a feature film called The Scarf, and Kyle has recently finished directing and producing a feature film called Logan, which stars actors Leo Howard (from GI Joe: Rise of Cobra, and Disney's Leo Little) and Booboo Stewart (from The Twilight Saga). The students at this camp will use the same cameras which Kyle and his crew used while filming Completing Kaden and The Scarf. Kyle has also instructed over 130 different teens at 11 different film and media camps and various film classes.

Additionally, each Summer Film and Media Camp will be co-instructed by another film industry professional still to be announced.

Costs:

Each Summer Film and Media Camp is $145 per student.

That's it! No material fees. No tape stock fees. No extra or hidden fees. Simply the price that we have posted above. Everything is built in to the cost. That's less than $5 per hour of instruction!

Camp Fee Includes:
The $145 camp fee includes the following...
- Camp Tuition and Training
- Equipment Use
- Short Film Budget which students will produce and star in
- Camp T-Shirt **New for 2010**

We keep our costs low to allow as many students as possible to participate. However, please register soon, as space is limited to insure the best learning environment for all students. Students should bring a sack lunch and will be given a lunch break each day at noon. A refrigerator will be available on-site.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us via e-mail or call us at (604) 357-3816.
